What do batteries run on?

I know, I know, it's been week or so since my last post. I've been busy trying to avoid working. I start a new job on Wednesday and I've been busting my butt doing paperwork to get security clearance since my new job is for the government. I've never seen such red tape. You could rebuild the pyramids at Giza with this crap. But I suppose it's worth it as I will be working for our troops overseas. Whether you like it or hate it, you must respect it. My father, grandfather and father-in-law were all in wars. My father-in-law the most decorated soldier in McDowell county. He fought in 2 wars, WWII and Korea. I'm very proud of my family and their history as soldiers. I mean it is Memorial Day after all.

For the love of Pete.....

I don't know about you guys, but I'm sick to death of morons who insist on calling themselves MCSE's who don't know squat. Not only that, I'm sick to death of Management (I use the term VERY loosely) that can't keep their heads out of their asses long enough to know a good thing when it hits them.

See, the issue stems from the fact that I'm leaving the company I work for now, to go to another job where I will actually get to use a REAL operating system (Linux!). Granted I was hired here to actually be used in situations where the other techs here couldn't handle it. Which means if it wasn't Windows, I was called in. Not only that, I'm the DB guy and a jack-of-all-trades kind of guy. However, I have felt the entire time here that I wasn't wanted. That I've over-stayed my welcome and they were looking for any excuse to get rid of me. And since I"m a consultant I get paid by Billable hours. And they have conveniently found ways to minimize my hours without making it totally obvious.

So, I get a job offer and I decide to take it. What do I get for my pains from these creeps? Nothing more than, "Well now we don't have to decide which of the two guys we interviewed to hire (we had another consultant leave about a month ago), we can hire them both."

No, 'Thanks for the work', 'Why are you leaving' or 'What can we do to make you stay?'. If I didn't have one last project to finish up prior to my leaving that NO ONE ELSE in the company can do, I'd be out on my ass now.

I really don't have any major qualms with anyone here, but geez, give a guy a pat on the back. Try to find out why he's leaving. Try to find out why no Consultant here has worked for them longer than 10 months. I mean even the biggest idiot can see there's a problem. But no, Management just blindly gropes on like a lemming looking for a cliff. Makes you wonder how these fools got their degrees.

What is the world coming to.....

The end is near...no, not really. My first blog post. The world really is ending when I cave and get my own blog. Normally, I just bitch and moan to the voices in my head. But why not share my insanity with the rest of the universe? And because I'm a first rate lame-o here's a little about me.

I'm 32 years old with 4 kids, all girls and I'm a Network Engineer that's soon to be working on the coolest gig in the world, managing an Internet2 node in North Carolina. Can't wait to pull down my pirated movies in less than 10 seconds!

As for what I like to do, actually, I'm boring as hell. I love to read and collect books, I have 4,000 and counting. I am an amateur historian specializing in Roman History, specifically the time period of 1st century BC to about 60 AD. Other than that, I watch a little TV (love 'HOUSE' it rocks) and mostly enjoy British humor, BlackAdder, MontyPython, etc. And that's about it....

I intend to use this area only for my own personal bitch session and rants on all kinds of things. Read it or not. It's your bandwidth. Pax vobiscum.
